Taking time off is hardly part of Kim Tildens vocabulary. Ever since her Figure debut in 2005, she did nothing but continue to climb to the top. Kim’s beautiful lines, symmetry and shape, made this Canadian a perfect fit in the IFBB, and in 2009, she was rewarded with the elusive IFBB Pro Card.
Kim is dedicated to her training program; which shows in her polished physique, every time she steps on stage. But things changed when she and her husband Gordon, decided to start a family. A few months into her first pregnancy, the mom-to-be was told to slow down. Due to an anatomical issue, Kim had to set the weights down to ensure the safety of her little baby girl. Although on limited activity, this natural athlete kept to a pregnancy nutrition plan, while working with her coach Mike Davies to maintain her overall health.
A short 9 months ago, Kim’s precious daughter Ainsley was born. After 4 and a half months Kim picked up the weights after nursing the entire time. With the new addition to their lives, Kim and Gordon had to work together as a team if Kim was going to get back on stage, so Kim set out a game plan and gathered her support team!
“I think it is important to set a goal after having a baby. I think its equally important to rally support. Although it was hard at times, I tried to be ok with taking time for myself and although my priorities changed, I didn’t lose sight of my goals”
Officially deciding to compete in February, she had intended on making her post-baby debut in Figure at the Europa. But shortly before her first show, she made the decision to switch to the new Physique class, which is rapidly gaining attention at shows across North America. When asked why the switch Kim noted:
“I was told I was too muscular and too lean at the 2010 Ms. Figure International so I thought with some time off I might have lost a bit of size. However, as I dieted down, I just kept getting tighter and fuller, and my coach Mike Davies and I, realized that I retained most of my size. So instead of doing hours of cardio and limited weight training, Mike and I decided to make the switch. I was able to train heavy again and cardio was kept at a minimum. And for those who know me well, know I like to come in lean and hard so the switch seemed natural.”
A trainer herself, Kim made sure to work closely with both her coach Mike Davies, and National Level Bodybuilder Mark Richman, on her new posing requirements, to prepare for the season ahead.
Kim has also worked out a perfect balance so that her daughter is an active part of her fit life, saying,
“Ainsley comes to our conditioning classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on the weekends. She’s a gym rat already.”
This Mom, athlete, IFBB Pro, coach, trainer & wife, is a wonder-woman on a mission and stresses the importance for other mothers to make time for themselves, set personal goals and use the support of their family and friends to achieve them. She is a force to be reckoned with, and one to watch as she continues to step on stage at the Toronto Pro SuperShow!
